You Are Called

There is a quiet voice deep inside of you that says you are made for more. It whispers sometimes so loud we can’t shake it. That is how we know we are made for more than what we are doing right now.

God often calls us and gives us a seed in our hearts, letting us know that we are going to do great things. When King David was still a shepherd boy, God gave him a word that he would be king. He didn’t actually step into that crown until many years later. David knew deep down the calling he had yet he waited on the Lord to show him the right timing (Isaiah 60:22)

When you are called you’re now set apart form the crowd. You do not fit in to social norms because you have big dreams and a willingness to achieve them. You are not scared of looking like a fool in the world’s eyes because you know your validation and identity are rooted in the Lord (your Heavenly Father). First you are cringe and crazy when you talk about these dreams, then everyone asks how you did it once they become reality—your obedience to the Lord becomes an example.

How do we know when we are called to greatness? Well, do you feel in your heart that God has a plan for you? Do you have big dreams? Do you know (even deep down) that you can do it?? If so, you are called. There is a pull on your heart to do more than what you have done and what you think you will do. This dream will require you to get out of your own way. Your calling is depending on you getting out of your own head so you can fix your eyes on Jesus and serve His people. When we completely trust in God, there is no more worries for our life, we trust Him to lead us into abundance and we know that He will never leave us.

We have capacity to love other people when we realize how loved we are in the Lord. This is not meant to come out of a state of pressure, but purpose. Your purpose is to be a light to the world. Lights shine in the darkness, they do not conform to the darkness. (Romans 12:2, Matthew 5:14) A light to the world also means to be an example of Christ’s love to others, to be a beacon of hope…to merely smile at another human being showing them you care even if it’s just communicated with your eyes.

All of us who love Jesus are all called to two things: Love the Lord with all our hearts and love our neighbor (other people). God created every person in His image. Loving people is loving a reflection of God. God loves and we love. Love is literally what makes the world go around. When we do not believe there is a calling for our lives or a purpose worth going after, guess what? We still have this calling. To love and to serve God and other people.

Now that we know this, it is time to take action and go do it.

Action asks that we first stand firm. Action is a state of doing while it also goes hand-in-hand with being. We first need to be then we do then we be again. All of our doing flows from how we are being. What is on the inside will eventually show on the outside. What does being look like? It looks like being real with yourself, with God and with the other people around you. Being with God is simple. He paid such a high price to own your heart and spend eternity with you. Jesus wants to be a part of your every moment. For me, this looks like talking to Him as a friend. A best friend who is always there ready to spend time with you. And such a cool add on to this is YOU taking the first steps in your relationship with Jesus empowers others to take their first step. You growing provides a wonderful example for others around you to follow.

When you think you have zero influence, you have an immense amount of it. Every person you see is being influenced by you in some way or another. Positive or negative, they will walk away with an impression of you. This is a small example, but think about it from a bigger scale. The words you say, things you do, people you see…are all going to walk away feeling encouraged or discouraged by you.

I wrote the Bible verse 1 Peter 3:1 on a pink sticky note and pasted it on the wall of my closet. It says, “Even if some refuse to obey the Good News (Christ), your godly lives will speak to them without any words.”

I ask you this: What is the message you are saying to the world based on how you live daily. Do you see people? Do you care about them? Do you love them sincerely? I encourage you today to go out and truly compliment three different people you do not already know. You never know where those compliments might lead that conversation and you never know how much that person needed a delightful word.

YOU are a light even if you can’t see yourself shine.

This is a picture of the sun right outside my car window. It reminded me of how we are called to shine in the world as children of God.
